Provincial funding expands The Grove to 128 long-term care beds to better meet local needs

March 18, 2021 – Today, the Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC) announced their commitment to fund 32 additional long-term care beds at The Grove Nursing Home that will provide the specialized care and support to a total of 128 residents. This is part of the Ontario government’s $933 million investment in 80 new long-term care projects.

“Our most vulnerable deserve the support they need when they need it in a setting that provides comfort and caring,” said Dr. Merrilee Fullerton, Minister of Long-Term Care, in the Ontario government’s media release. “Today’s investment is part of the government’s comprehensive plan to modernize long-term care for generations to come. It will increase access to long-term care, reduce waitlists, and ease hospital capacity pressures.”

The current Grove site will be developed to accommodate the newly funded 32 beds and accommodate the additional space designated for the Seniors’ Village that will help support the health and well-being of seniors living in the community.

“We are thrilled about this newest commitment by the provincial government that will provide the Arnprior and area community with the additional long-term care beds to better meet the needs of the aging population closer to home,” said Barb Darlow, Chair, Arnprior Regional Health (ARH) Board of Directors.

ARH is in the early design phases of the Seniors’ Village that will accommodate these additional 32 new beds. The current target for opening the new beds is still to be determined.

“The Grove currently has approximately 170 people on its wait list and we’re proud that this new investment of 32 additional beds coupled with the previously announced 36 beds will help meet the growing demand by more than doubling the Grove’s capacity to 128 beds,” said Eric Hanna, President and CEO, ARH. “We have an exceptional Grove leadership team in place that is well positioned to further expand our Grove campus to include more long-term care beds and launch the Seniors’ Village that will better support seniors living in the community.”

“We are thrilled to continue to expand our Grove community to welcome more residents and their families,” said Judith Gilchrist, VP, Long-Term Care and Administrator, The Grove, ARH. “Our focus is to ensure an individualized experience that is meaningful to each resident and we are building an evolving person-centred model of care that we can expand as we welcome more people to our home.”

The new Grove building continues to target its opening for August 2021 that will add the previously announced 36 beds to welcome a total of 96 residents to a new, modern home.
