Telemedicine

The Ontario Telemedicine Network is a rapidly expanding, not-for-profit organization that’s improving access to medical treatment, especially for patients living in rural areas. Each day, 12 patients in the Champlain region use telemedicine.

For example, a patient may go to their community hospital in Arnprior to consult with a skin, heart, or diabetes specialist in Ottawa through videoconferencing. A total of 30 providers, networks, and educational institutions are now hooked up in the Champlain region. Telemedicine is important to the Champlain LHIN, as it helps address the strategic direction of improving access to care closer to home.
