Lindsey Burt: A career move into healthcare to help make an impact

After Lindsey Burt graduated from Carleton University with a B.A. in political science, she fell into the hotel industry where she eventually worked as a manager.

“I was assessing what do I really liked about my hotel manager role and it was more the human resources side of it – I liked the development of people, training, recruitment, onboarding and payroll,” explained Lindsey, who is currently the Human Resources Business Partner at ARH.

She decided to go back to school and study Human Resources Management at Algonquin College and after she graduated, she worked in HR at Lowes Canada for nearly 10 years.

Making the switch to healthcare during a pandemic

Lindsey started her ARH position on April 6, 2020 in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I think HR teams in any industry right now are dealing with the continuous changes that COVID has triggered,” said, Lindsey. “But in healthcare, COVID has put a greater draw on resources so it has been an interesting time to come in.”

Regardless of the pandemic challenges, Lindsey is pleased she found a new home at ARH.

“Everybody has been very welcoming and wonderful to work with,” she said.

A cohesive and positive place to work

Looking back at the past year, Lindsey is proud of being part of a well-functioning, cohesive HR team that works in collaboration with all the managers and other departments.

“I see HR as a very supportive role,” she said. “Our team is here to support the business, the employees, the managers and the organization. Our goal is to enable a positive and cohesive workplace.”

When not at work, Lindsey enjoys spending time with her husband and three kids at home in Carleton Place home.
