Bring your own device program set to begin February 2024

January 31, 2024 – Arnprior Regional Health (ARH) has decided to join many of our peer hospitals in pursuing a “Bring-Your-Own-Device” (BYOD) entertainment solution, beginning in February 2024.

For many years, ARH has partnered with a cable service provider to offer television packages for purchase for patients and visitors. With drastically declining viewership rates and increasing infrastructure costs, ARH considered other options.

In an informal survey, we asked patients on the Inpatient Unit at the Hospital how they would prefer to access entertainment services. The results were clear: most patients preferred to use their own device to access streaming services and other entertainment options.

With increasing expenses for services and equipment replacement, significantly reduced usage, and a clear patient preference for a BYOD solution, ARH cannot justify the continued cost to provide bedside cable services.

Beginning in February, ARH will be removing the in-room televisions. A dedicated Wi-Fi network will be available for all patients and visitors to use.
