The Grove Nursing Home residents have moved into their brand-new, expanded home

October 15, 2021 – Yesterday evening, the Grove Nursing Home residents enjoyed their first dinner together in their new and expanded home following a successful move day.

After months of planning, organizing, purging, packing, and labelling, the residents moved from the old 60-bed Grove to the brand-new, 96-bed home. The move was led and supported by Grove staff, volunteers, families, and external movers—happening in two phases with the first group of residents moved in the morning and the second in the afternoon. Three buses shuttled the residents to their new home –an approximate 20-second drive from door-to-door once they were situated on the bus safely and comfortably.

“I cannot say enough about how everyone worked together to make this a memorable event for the residents,” shared Judith Gilchrist, VP, Long-Term Care and Administrator, Arnprior Regional Health (ARH). “We had an exceptionally smooth and calm moving day and there were many smiles as residents had their first look at the new Grove.”

The construction of the new Grove broke ground in November 2019 and has increased the capacity for the number of residents from 60 to 96 to help improve local access to care and meet the growing demand.

“This is a monumental day for our Grove residents, their families, our team and the community,” said Leah Levesque, President and CEO, ARH. “We are thrilled to be able to welcome home our residents to a modern, resident-first Grove that will further improve the specialized care they receive and their quality of life.”

The design of the new Grove includes special considerations and features that enhance dementia care, better facilitate infection prevention and control precautions, and accommodate the Grove’s person-centred model of care. The new home has been laid out into three Resident Home Areas (RHAs) – each includes a dedicated living room, dining room, activity room, home kitchen, bedrooms, and access to a secure courtyard with walking paths, seating, and gardens.

As part of a phased occupancy plan, the 60 residents from the old Grove have moved into two Resident Home Areas and the third RHA will open soon.
