The Grove opens final Resident Home Area helping increase local access to long-term care

June 8, 2022 – The new Grove Nursing Home is opening its third and final 32-bed Resident Home Area (RHA) – Pine Lane – which will help tackle the waitlist for local long-term care.

“When we moved to the new Grove, we took a phased approach by opening only two RHAs to make it a smooth transition for our residents and staff; however, our timeline to open the third RHA was extended because of the difficulty hiring staff amidst the provincial health human resources shortage,” said Leah Levesque, President and CEO, Arnprior Regional Health (ARH). “It is wonderful to now be in the position to start welcoming new residents to our 96-bed home and deliver on our commitment to increase local long-term care capacity by 60 per cent.”

The Grove Team mapped out a multi-step approach to fully occupy Pine Lane by first moving a few current residents from other Grove RHAs, which will be followed over the next few weeks with the gradual admission of new residents who are on the waitlist.

Grove resident, Bruce Flann, sits in the Pine Lane dining room with Lynn McLaughlin, RPN. Bruce has moved from another Grove RHA to Pine Lane.

“We are very pleased to have met this milestone so that we have the opportunity to continue to provide The Grove’s quality care and services to those in need of in our community and surrounding areas,” shared Janice Dunn, Vice President, Seniors Care/Long-Term Care and Community Programs, ARH.  “Our waitlist is long, and our team is committed to the process of working with families to transition their loved ones from their home or hospital to The Grove.”

The new, expanded Grove Nursing Home first welcomed residents to their new home on October 14, 2021, and increased long-term care capacity from 60 beds to 96 beds. The design of the new Grove includes special features that enhance dementia care, better facilitate infection prevention and control precautions, and accommodate The Grove’s person-centred model of care. The new home has been laid out into three Resident Home Areas– each includes a dedicated living room, dining room, activity room, home kitchen, bedrooms, and access to a secure courtyard with walking paths, seating, and gardens.
