Nursing Hero: Lucy Willemsen, Inpatient Unit

Arnprior Regional Health (ARH) put a call out to staff to nominate a nursing colleague who goes above and beyond for patients, residents, and clients. Lucy Willemsen was selected as the 2021 Nursing Hero for the Inpatient Unit.

Lucy Willemsen was inspired to become a nurse after helping care for her grandmother in her later years.

“I realized there’s a great need for helping take care of the elderly,” said Lucy, who works on ARH’s Inpatient Unit. “I’ve been a nurse for more than 10 years now and I’ve loved being able to help so many people.”

Through her nursing career, Lucy has found that one of the best parts of the role is the camaraderie with her co-workers.

“We are all very supportive of each other, and that’s truly special,” said Lucy. “Each and every team member deserves special recognition for working so hard to provide great care to our patients.”

Amanda Cavanagh, Physiotherapist Assistant, ARH, was one colleague who nominated Lucy for the honour, and shared: “Lucy is a hard-working nurse who has her patients’ best interest at heart and advocates for them. Patients are lucky to have a kind, caring and thorough nurse like Lucy.”

For Lucy, her focus on great care does not waver.

“I hope patients and their families feel safe knowing they’re receiving the best care.”
