Local seniors will soon have their own space and programming designed specifically for them with the opening of the Senior’s Active Living Centre (SALC) in Arnprior on October 1st. A second location is set to open in McNab/Braeside in early 2019.
The SALC is a membership-based centre where seniors can participate in social, educational and recreational programming and drop-in activities that help support their physical, emotional and social well-being, in an environment that enables seniors to remain independent, active, healthy and socially engaged within their own communities. Membership is open to seniors 55+.
Darrel O’Shaughnessy, Chair of the Greater Arnprior Seniors Council and member of the SALC Steering Committee, describes the initiative as a “game-changer for our community.” O’Shaughnessy adds: “It offers a welcoming and cozy environment, a place to meet new friends and get reacquainted, and an opportunity to continue to learn, contribute and be safe.”
“We’re very proud to be a partner in the SALC,” says Eric Hanna, President & CEO of Arnprior Regional Health. “Promoting health and well-being of community members is a big part of how we can help build a healthy community, and it’s complementary to our many other seniors programs.”
The grand opening runs from 10 am to 2 pm, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, membership sales and refreshments. A shuttle will run from Shoppers Drug Mart and Giant Tiger.
