New Seniors Active Living Centre opens October 1st

September 5, 2018 –

Local seniors will soon have their own space and programming designed specifically for them with the opening of the Senior’s Active Living Centre (SALC) in Arnprior on October 1st. A second location is set to open in McNab/Braeside in early 2019.

The SALC is a membership-based centre where seniors can participate in social, educational and recreational programming and drop-in activities that help support their physical, emotional and social well-being, in an environment that enables seniors to remain independent, active, healthy and socially engaged within their own communities. Membership is open to seniors 55+.

Darrel O’Shaughnessy, Chair of the Greater Arnprior Seniors Council and member of the SALC Steering Committee, describes the initiative as a “game-changer for our community.” O’Shaughnessy adds: “It offers a welcoming and cozy environment, a place to meet new friends and get reacquainted, and an opportunity to continue to learn, contribute and be safe.”

“We’re very proud to be a partner in the SALC,” says Eric Hanna, President & CEO of Arnprior Regional Health. “Promoting health and well-being of community members is a big part of how we can help build a healthy community, and it’s complementary to our many other seniors programs.”

The grand opening runs from 10 am to 2 pm, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, membership sales and refreshments. A shuttle will run from Shoppers Drug Mart and Giant Tiger.

About the SALC

The SALC-Arnprior and the SALC-McNab/Braeside are a partnership of the Ontario Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, Arnprior Regional Health, the Town of Arnprior and the Township of McNab/Braeside.

The SALC in Arnprior is centrally located in the heart of downtown at 77B Madawaska Street. It’s fully accessible and has ample parking. Opening hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Programming and activities include low-impact fitness classes, senior’s yoga, creative writing, a photo club, crafts, card games, a men’s shed and more.

Membership is available to seniors 55 years and over and costs $25 annually ($15/year from October 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019). Members are entitled to participate in organized programs or drop-in activities at any time the SALC is open.

Transportation to both SALC locations is available for residents of Arnprior and McNab/Braeside through the Arnprior-Braeside-McNab Seniors at Home Program.
