Diabetes Educator (Registered Nurse)
Permanent Part-Time, 0.4 FTE (15 hours per week)

The Arnprior & District Memorial Hospital and the Grove Nursing Home are located in the Town of Arnprior, less than 30 minutes northwest of Ottawa. There are approximately 320 staff, 200 volunteers, and a growing number of medical staff providing exemplary care to over 30,000 residents of West Ottawa, McNab/Braeside, Arnprior and portions of Mississippi Mills. We currently have an opportunity available for a Part Time Diabetes Educator (15 hours per week). This position, which reports to the Vice President of Patient/Resident Services & CNE, will administer the diabetes education program for outpatients in conjunction with the Clinical Dietitian including, but not limited to the following:

-Developing and revising policies and procedures;
-Participating in regional groups to improve access to diabetes education;
-Identifying client needs and developing education programs accordingly to support patient care;
-Acting as a resource to both staff, and physicians in the management of diabetes;
-Initiating and working collaborating with physicians to adjust diabetic medications and insulin for outpatients

Qualifications:

  • Registered Nurse in good standing with the Colleges of Nurses of Ontario
  • BscN preferred
  • Certified Diabetes Educator preferred
  • Minimum 2 years nursing experience in medical or surgical or critical care required
  • Knowledge and / or experience of adult education theory
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a manner than is both patient-focused and collaborative
  • Ability to successfully monitor patient outcomes and adjust care programs as required
  • Proficient with a variety of computer applications including Word, Excel, Power Point

Knowledge of the principles of self-management for chronic disease patient populations
