October 7, 2021 – The Ontario government has announced Darrel O’Shaughnessy, founding member of The Arnprior-McNab-Braeside Men’s Shed and Chair of the Greater Arnprior Seniors Council, as a recipient of this year’s Ontario Senior Achievement Award.
He is one of 15 outstanding seniors being celebrated for their exceptional contributions to their communities and to the province.
Darrel was honoured with this award because “[he] uses considerable energy and organizational skills to advocate for seniors through his role as Chair of the Greater Arnprior Seniors Council, his involvement in forming the local Seniors Active Living Centre, the creation of a local Men’s Shed and founding of a local Dragon Boat group, to name just a few of his many project that enrich community life for older residents.”
The recipients are being recognized by the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility at a virtual recognition ceremony.
“This award means a great deal to me, my family, and the wonderful communities that I serve,” shared Darrel. “To be honest, none of these achievements would have been as successful as they are without total community engagement. It takes a team to effectively deliver, so, I accept this honour on behalf of our communities. Thank you, team.”
Judy Cobus, Manager of Community Programs at Arnprior Regional Health, added: “We are over the moon with this announcement and so very proud of the work Darrel has done to make Arnprior and McNab-Braeside a true age-friendly community. He is a passionate leader who continues to inspire us by bringing people together to reach common goals.”
